The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has announced the first wave of funding through the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF).
Local authorities and housing associations in England will have the opportunity to bid for a share of £160 million, intended to upgrade the energy efficiency of up to 38,000 of the UK’s worst energy-performing social housing properties, including installation of insulation and more energy efficient doors, windows and heating systems. It is anticipated that tenants could save approximately £170 each year on energy bills, at the same time making their homes warmer and reducing carbon emissions.
The total amount of funding to be made available through the SHDF over a 10-year period is £3.8 billion.
