Regulatory Readiness

The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) is responsible for registering and regulating Registered Providers.  The consequences of not complying with the Regulator’s Standards can be serious and can threaten the independent status of housing providers.

How we can help
We can help you understand the Regulator’s expectations and assess your compliance, supporting you to comply with Regulatory Standards and have a positive relationship with the Regulator.

Helping to get you registered
If you are looking to become a Registered Provider, we can help you through the process, assisting with applications, governance and compliance frameworks, strategies, policies and procedures, regulatory liaison and ensuring that you have everything you need to meet the Regulator’s requirements.

Advising you as you near or reach the 1,000-home threshold
The regulatory regime for Registered Providers with more than 1,000 homes is more onerous than the regime for Registered Providers with less than 1,000 homes.  You will need to submit Quarterly Survey returns and at some stage, possibly within 12 months of reaching the 1,000-home threshold, you will be subject to an In-Depth Assessment (IDA).  We can help you prepare for that change in the level of regulatory scrutiny and ensure you have everything in place to meet regulatory expectations.

Assessing your compliance with Regulatory Standards
If you are concerned about the level of your compliance with any of the Regulatory Standards or if you just want some additional assurance through a compliance health check, we can support you by independently assessing your compliance and advising you on steps to take to demonstrate compliance or, if you are non-compliant, to return to compliance.  We can also assist you to make your annual assessment of compliance with the Governance and Financial Viability Standard, which requires compliance with all of the Regulatory Standards.

Helping you prepare for an In-Depth Assessment (IDA)
All Registered Providers with more than 1,000 homes are periodically subject to an In-Depth Assessment (IDA). We can help you to prepare for a future IDA by discussing what the Regulator will be expecting to see, reviewing policy documents, conducting mock interviews with Board and/or Executive members and observing Board meetings, to ensure you sre ready and fit for assessment.

Supporting you through difficult regulatory times
Even well-run Registered Providers can find themselves in trouble with the Regulator from time to time.  We can help you to formulate a plan when problems come to light, assist you to agree a way forward with the Regulator and work with you to help you back to compliance.
