Mick’s expertise is in governance, finance, risk, assurance and regulatory compliance.

Mick worked at the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) and its predecessor organisations for over 20 years, until he left in December 2020, to become a consultant at YDC. At RSH Mick conducted various roles over the years including being the national lead at different times for regulatory operations and financial regulation policy.

More recently Mick led the transfer of the RSH from the former Homes and Communities Agency and the creation of the standalone regulator.  Mick subsequently set up and led the RSH’s Finance and Corporate Services Team, when his responsibilities included finance, digital, human resources, risk management, liaison with MHCLG on financial matters and supporting the RSH’s Board and Audit and Risk Committee.

Before becoming a regulator, Mick worked in private practice as an external auditor and accountant, with a portfolio of housing associations, charities and credit unions.

Mick is a Board Member at One Manchester which owns and manages more than 12,000 homes in central, south and east Manchester.  He is a former Board Member of Forever Manchester, Groundwork Cheshire, Lancashire & Merseyside and Voluntary Sector North West.

Mick enjoys walking, reading and watching football.  He has a keen interest in history and is currently completing a History MA with the Open University.

Since March 2021, we have worked closely Mick through YD Consultants as we look to embrace and secure Registered Provider (RP) status by January 2024. Mick’s work around Governance has massively helped the business organise and direct our resources appropriately. In addition, his experience and insight has given us the confidence and clarity needed to enable the Board and CEO to lead the business effectively forward over the next 12 months or so as we seek accreditation. As indication of his value and contribution we plan to retain the services of Mick on an annual basis and have already opened discussions around reviewing our progress towards application in January 2023.
