Chartered Institute of Housing and National Housing Federation set up independent panel to make recommendations to improve quality of social housing stock

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and the National Housing Federation (NHF) have set up an independent panel to make recommendations to improve social housing stock.

Coverage by the media and on social media over the last 12 months have highlighted problems with poor quality homes across the social housing sector, including local authority housing providers and housing associations.  This initiative aims to increase the sector’s understanding of the issues and the changes that are needed to address them.

The panel which will be chaired by Helen Baker, Chair of Shelter, and will comprise of people with lived experience and expertise in social housing, will meet over the summer with residents, community leaders, and other partners.  The panel will consider wider factors affecting social housing and consider how these issues may have impacted on quality.
