In the week commencing Monday 23 October 2023 the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH):

  • published its annual social housing sector stock and rents statistics. In the year to 31 March 2023 the number of social homes increased by 34,000 (an additional 26,000 Affordable Rent homes and an additional 14,000 low cost home ownership homes, partially offset by a reduction of 6,000 in social rent homes)
  • published a Regulatory Notice for Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust for breaching the Rent Standard after the provider had wrongly classified some of its homes as supported housing and had also previously set rents incorrectly for hundreds of fair rent tenancies
  • published Regulatory Judgements for six providers, including for Cheshire Peaks & Plains Housing Trust and Citizen Housing Group, both of which have been re-graded from V1 to V2. Of 202 providers with Regulatory Judgements, 112 are now graded V2 compared with just 60 a year ago and
  • withdrew a Regulatory Notice for South Kesteven District Council as the provider has resolved issues in relation to fire safety, the safety of heating appliances, electrical safety, and asbestos safety
